Upper Zakum Installation for Exxon

In late 2012 Occurrent Arts worked with Hush to provide interactive development and sound design for a unique experiential work for Exxon’s conference and showroom experience.

The resulting work was a realtime 3D visualization of the fourth largest oilfield in the world. It was an interesting design challenge, because we had a linear story to tell through a nonlinear explorative experience.

We opted to use 5 transparent “lenses” as windows with which you could reveal the Zakum map. With these lenses you can manipulate the timeline, see the corresponding data, and discover the unfolding story relating to the geographic space.  Occurrent Arts performed custom interactive sound design using Max/Msp as well as realtime generative geometry representing the oil wells beneath the water’s surface.
